“Obvious” is a word I have hated on for being redundant or condescending. If you need to say it’s obvious, then it’s not obvious. If it’s obvious and you say it anyway, then you are insulting your listeners’ intelligence or wasting their time. It’s a word I have tried to edit out of my speaking and writing.

Sometimes it is obviously the right word though. This is a love song.

I imagined this as a club pop song, to be sung by Bebe Rexha or someone like her. It was one of the last things I wrote before I left Pittsburgh. Settling into my new place has been slow going, and sadly the feelings ran dry before I could sink into the production further than this bare bones piano and drum machine sketch. That’s always the risk you take when you write in the heat of a moment – moments pass. Fortunately, emotions also have a way of coming back around. Maybe I’ll come back to this next time I’m in love. Obvious

Obvious
From the look in your eyes
You’ve never felt
A love like mine

Obvious
From the sound of my smile
Now that I’ve found you
I never wanna leave your side

No, it’s not the right time
But what are you doing
For the rest of your life?

‘Cause I’ve been wandering in a maze
Seeing shades of you in every face
Technicolor where there once was gray
I’m not scared, just stunned
‘Cause it’s obvious

Obvious
With your hand in mine
We lock in step
We harmonize

Obvious
When we’re intertwined
Everything fades away
The fairy tales, the truth, the lies

There’ll never be a right time
So what are you doing
For the rest of your life?

‘Cause I’ve been wandering in a maze
Seeing shades of you in every face
Technicolor where there once was gray
I’m not scared, just stunned
‘Cause it’s obvious

We can see where this goes
Where the wind will blow
And I know you know
When you know, you know
When you don’t, you don’t
And you know I know

‘Cause I’ve been wandering in a maze
Seeing shades of you in every face
Technicolor where there once was gray
I’m not scared, just stunned
‘Cause it’s obvious
