Here is another title I have a long, long history with. It tracks back to high school, the days when we would not-so-cryptically quote song lyrics in MSN messenger statuses to convey our innermost thoughts, while exchanging cool “sooooooo”s as we waited for 45 mins or more for mp3s to transfer. One such lyric that lived in my status was Trapt: “Am I made of glass (’cause you see right through me)?“
It was an awkward adolescent time when I felt whiplashed by my desire to be desired, to experience all the big emotions depicted in my favorite songs. I struggled with ideas about femininity, wanting to be “just one of the guys” but also wanting something more. I knew the boys were going through it too; they would judge or ridicule me in public, but in private messages they were vulnerable, even tender. I found myself in one love triangle after another, always questioning who my friends were.
This song is my attempt to encapsulate that era, which twenty years of distance and perspective. It’s teenage passion – sneaking through windows and spinning bottles, breaking mirrors and crossing lines.

This idea has gone through countless revisions. When you’re carrying something that long, of course it feels heavier. But I’m finally deciding to put it down, at least in a rough demo form for now. There is a big space for a guitar solo before the key change that I will write and record over the next few weeks. Lots more rhythm textures and vocal layers to add. If I keep waiting to be ready to make my solo album, I’ll be waiting forever; so I’ve decided I’m ready now. I hope starting the year off with this song will help me tap into its eager confidence, and ride that energy into 2025 and this project. KM
Made of Glass
Say hello
I’m here knocking with rocks on your windows
Don’t make me go
I can’t believe how you’re keeping so calm and composed
I know, you know, you can’t ignore it
You’re always drawn into my orbit
You hide so well but I can tell that you’re curious
Well I may be shiny and see-through
But I’m not made of glass
I’m steady enough and I’m twice as tough to crack
Make your move
I’m here waiting, I’m yours for the taking
Don’t make me go
There’s no promise to fake and no way we can lose
I know, you know, we can’t ignore it
One simple touch could be euphoric
It’s truth or dare and I don’t care if it’s dangerous
‘Cause I may be shiny and see-through
But I’m not made of glass
I’m ready to know how it feels to take a chance
This could be greatest or the worst we’ve ever felt
You can call me crazy but I just can’t help myself
This could be greatest or the worst we’ve ever felt
Are you really scared to break or afraid to hurt yourself?
Well I may be shiny and see-through
But I’m not made of glass
I’m ready to know how it feels to take a chance
I’m ready for love so come on, bring on the crash
