At a certain point, after enough experience, falling in love feels delusional, ridiculous, impossible. And yet it’s not. It can happen again and again; unexpectedly, incredulously. I’ve been writing love songs for over twenty years and I have used up a lot of words trying to depict it. Maybe I’m a fool for trying but for whatever reason I feel compelled to keep trying. This song is my latest attempt to raise the stakes, find a more extreme metaphor to capture how extreme I feel. I’ve written before about how heartbreak can make you feel invincible, and frankly I am sick of it. I’m ready for love to irrevocably change me.

My goal with this production was to create a slow, continuous build across time that doesn’t peak until the end. White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane is the classic example; more recently I’ve been inspired by Olivia Rodrigo and Bella Kay. I started with acoustic guitar to tap an emo/goth vein. I’m still doing these demos in little two hour sprints, trying to follow my intuition and listening for what’s missing. This time that meant six tracks of guitar and organs but no drums. Maybe I would do it differently with more time but I don’t think so. KM
Love Me To Death
I’ve calloused my hands and blistered my feet
I’ve broken my heart and spilled my guts
But the cuts always heal and the scars always fade
My mind always clears and the shade remains
No matter how deep I dig this grave
I keep coming back alive
I want to be changed
I don’t want to survive
So will you love me, love me
Till there’s nothing left of me
Nothing left but the breath that you stole from my chest
Will you love me, love me
Love me to death
You outrun the rain while chasing the highs
You’re lucky in lust and skilled with lies
My hands in your hair, my skin in your teeth
I cease to exist every time you leave
No matter how deep we dig this grave
We keep coming back alive
And if this is wrong
I don’t want to be right
So will you love me, love me
Till there’s nothing left of me
Nothing left but the breath that you stole from my chest
Will you love me, love me
Love me to death
Will you love me, love me
Till there’s nothing left of me
Nothing left but the breath that you stole from my chest
Will you love me, love me
Love me to death
Till my name’s erased
Till my bones are dust
Till there’s no me and there’s no you
There’s only us
Will you love me, love me
Till there’s nothing left of me
Nothing left but the breath that you stole from my chest
Will you love me, love me
Love me to death
Will you love me, love me
Till there’s nothing left of me
Nothing left but the breath that you stole from my chest
Will you love me, love me
Love me to death
